Nokia is abandoning the N97 Download! applicaton!

To day I checked the Download! application in my N97. To my merry amazement there was only 1 application left in Download!: The OVI store application. I do have to say that the download application does seem a bit overkill on the N97 with both the ovi-store working quite well and the presence of the OTA Software Update application working excellent.

The default v12 N97 firmware has ovi-store version 1.00. The download application has v1.05 in offer. Upgrading went like blast. Strange though that the OVI-store update is not shown through the OTA Software Update application. Who would ever check Download! out of anything other than curiosity. So please every one check the Download! application on your N97. Most likely the last time you ever need to check it.

I guess it will be gone with firmware 2.0.

N82 video's trouble solved

Hi all,

A while back I had posted a question concerning the sudden unavailability of synchronizing my video's shots between N82 and PC. Nokia Photo application and Lifeblog downloaded all the photo's in the Pictures directory into folders, but NOT the video's and even the trick updating the Timeline didn't work. By now I had more than 10 video's of which out of frustration I deleted a few thinking it might be a memory problem (which was impossible because for that reason I had inserted extra memory card).

Anyway just out of sheer luck I browsed to Nokia forum and there I read a tread regarding almost the same problem and the solution or how it came to be solved and so thus mine. To make a long story short, he bought a phone thinking it had the latest version but it was not, did upgrades but under the wrong assumption that all applications were a part of the same process.

With other words in my N82 case, Nokia Photo's had a new addition with a new application called Nokia Nseries VIDEO MANAGER, only after downloading this version was I finally able to synchronize the files to the PC! I had no idea that a new conversion was launched with special features for video and film editing.

If only somewhere a line was added or specified that previous under Nokia Photo's the possibility had changed/transferred to the new Video Manager application, it would definitely saved me from many hours of frustration.

Hopefully anyone who was looking for an answer can now simply click and download the application to solve this problem and shoot at will to share these images now again.

Food photography, fresh baked Dutch Apple Pie.

I'm trying to make better photo's of cooked food, these have been taken with mobile phone camera N82; on/off flash mode; and set the scenery on automatic and in close-up mode. Not easy without studio lightnings to get dishes as yummy as possible, I often find certain features missing which in real life just makes all the difference gone within a flash.

Not always a camera ready the mobile phone camera's with the high pixels come in very handy, but still for food dishes it remains a challenge. If you have any digital camera tips and mobile phone use, please share your thoughts and experience with me.

Have a look at the photo's and tell which mode is better, and by the way the Pie is a variation on the Dutch Apple Pie which I created for my hubby when I had one of my bake mania's, this version has pineapple added to it, grated nimbu peel and home-made marzipan among the ingredients. The Apple-pineapple pie was eaten quicker than the time spent preparing and baking. Just lucky to have made these pictures right after it came out of the oven, because when I turned around there was only an empty plate and a few crumbs left.

User generated software re-engineering

This wallpaper was included with the latest batch of user generated software re-engineering for my trusty Samsung i8910. And I have been spending some time at this website because of the fantastic ROM cooking going on. I must say the possibilities of expanding the usefulness of ones smartphone are almost endless. And just think, this is just a small scale of collaboration. What if the spirit of things involved many more interested people....there would be nothing stopping us/them from accomplishing whatever is to be solved

Picture test between Samsung i8910 HD, Nokia N82 and Lg KC910

Since I posses several smartphones at the same time I have decided to make comparison photos between the Samsung i8910 HD, the Nokia N82 and the Lg KC910. Please keep in mind the Samsung and Lg both sport 8 meg cameras whereas the Nokia is armed with 5 megs, therefore to be balanced all shots were taken in the 5 meg mode.

If you haven't noticed the upper left hand side of each photo indicates what model was used.

Automatic shots from three smartphones

Micro mode shots from three smartphones

Semi dark-flash photos from three smartphones

Pitch dark-flash shots from three smartphones

The winner in the automatic round is the a tie between Lg and Samsung and Nokia rounding out last place.

The winner in the micro mode is the Lg followed closely behind by Samsung and Nokia in third place.

In the semi dark flash round the Nokia and it xenon technology shows it still has the stuff to savage a winning spot followed closely by the xenon tech in the Lg and the Samsung with its nevertheless still powerful led flash taking third place.

In the pitch dark flash round the stand off placement was one meter before the camera whereby the Nokia most evident the powerhouse and takes first place followed by the Lg and finally the Samsung.

On last thing. The overall winner is the Lg KC910 (Renoir) because it possesses the best total balance in most situations. And the compression rates in picture size noted below that the Lg produces compared to the others are note worthy.

Problem synchronizing video's with PC/Nokia photo

Need answer asap:
At the moment I'm having problems synchronizing video's between the N82 and my PC/Nokia Photo application. Lifeblog photo's are copied easily, followed by an error message that a problem occurred and was unable (#) to copy files to the PC and these are video files. So I thought maybe it helps to put them in an album but it doesn't even show up in the application under Albums as usual if a new album is created.

Have tried to update time link of Lifeblog, but to no avail either. The funny thing is I see them in the sync tray "grayish", but no video file(s) are visible in the Lifeblog timeline. Even done a reboot on the N82 still no change.

Has anyone else encountered the same problem or a solution available how to get the files on my PC?
Your advice will be very appreciated, either the memory card gets overloaded or I have to delete what I've recorded!

N82 travel companion

As posted earlier here the quality of photo's made by N82 is fantastic, during my trips around New Delhi and recent travels in Asia I've been constantly using the camera pics which are uploaded to blogs or PC storage. The only minor is while you're filming it's not handy to use zoom in/out and I think that the pause button function shouldn't be on the screen face. If you're pressing it while filming you can't escape moving the camera. For the camera's night function on scene mode, more than often blurry pictures because it has no automatic stabilizer to avoid even minor movements.

With the Ovi, photo application it's synchronizes and upload Lifeblog and photo's very handy....if all works perfectly, in the beginning I had often error messages but since I updated it works much better. However after synchronizing it's much easier to have photo's, send as email attachment for posting, than directly from the phone it takes ages, it drains my battery and fails to upload often. No idea whether it is has anything to do with my server or malfunction.

I've taken this one after 8pm when it was totally dark, actually not too bad it sets perfectly the mood and view. But filming is impossible without extra light. For travelers without a doubt N82 is a perfect travel companion:), this way I virtually can share my views with anyone, anywhere, anytime and attach them fast.

I do miss Qwerty keyboard for texting and blogging, really contemplated to purchase a wireless keyboard which is quite pricey though. If I really wanted it I should have bought it while still living in Singapore here in New Delhi they are not available at all. Since I read the post where Al compared the N97 camera quality with N82 in July earlier, perhaps we have to wait a little bit longer for a newer improved model with upgraded camera function combined with a good Qwerty board together. N82 for now comes a long way to talk, view and share.

I love good gadges and having a mobile phone and digital camera in one, like my N82 it saves up space instead of carrying two devices. A multimedia computer optimized for photography, navigation and internet connectivity. The combination of a good phone combined with a 5 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, Xenon flash for sharp ultra brightness and an innovative secondary camera for 3G video calling. Wi-fi is a great development too, connect and surf instantly anytime and anywhere.

The last 10yrs we've been traveling and moving around, at that time these type of devices and applications where not designed yet lest available to us. With the Share online I added Vox account to post blogs and/or photo's while on the go directly from the phone onto the net, which comes in handy since I moved to India last year. This country never has a dull moment there's always something to capture or to share about, topics galore.

I've been a huge fan of Nokia Communicator due to it's Qwerty keyboard which I very much favor, but the new launched N97 has all the above features included. Alas with all the technical features I'm still contemplating what I prefer most a good quality camera with high pixels or a decent keyboard, it's feels like making a choice between "The chicken or the egg".

The second picture is of a public toilet that I used yesterday and noticed a man not washing his hands after use. Totally icky!

I just cannot get enough of these price drops in "Prepaid" mobile Internet use. 30 Day Internet Flatrate for Euro 14,99!!! And if one doesn't want to spend that much money, the basic rate included with the prepaid sim card is 24 Euro cents per Megabyte and if used correctly with say for example the Opera mini browser the full Internet realm is within reach. In comparison, AT&T prepaid data offers per Megabyte at $4,99 or 100 Megabytes for $19,99---rip off!

Furthermore, my local German prepaid SIM provider Blau offers a great deal with 1 Gigabyte of data for Euro 10,00.

Another comparison is the Sprint 2 year contract data stick for an outrageous $59,99 per month---rip off!

Wake up US consumers and take the power back from these Gangsters in suits.
